Japanese Research Team Successfully Developed Real-life “Transformer”

A Japanese toy company, joining forces with robotics research teams, successfully developed a 1:4 scale fully-functioning prototype Transformer.

The J-deite Quarter weighs 35 kilograms, about 1.3 meters in height, and is able to transform from a humanoid robot to an automobile in 30 to 40 seconds.  In its humanoid form, it has a walking speed of 1 kmh, but can accelerate up to 10 kmh in its car form.

Actually, this is just the first phase of the Project J-deite.  The team plans to develop a 1:2 model (2.5 meters in height) by 2016, and to complete its final version model--a full 5 meters in height--by 2020.
